Sponsor a Foster Child This Christmas
& Give a Kid a Kit!
UPDATE - February 2007

200 Scrapbooking Kits Delivered to Gaston County, NC Department of Social Services

Misty Kearns of WAHWomen.com & Nicole Pereira of ItchintoScrap.com were approached in November 2006 regarding a fundraiser to provide 200 scrapbooking kits for foster children in
Gaston County, NC. The Department of Social Services requires for the children and foster parents to maintain Life Books (scrap books) to help them with the adjustments of living as a
foster child and transitioning to adoption. While the scrapbooking company that made these kits did not offer a fundraising program, Misty & Nicole took it upon themselves to raise the
funds and donations to provide these children with the kits for Christmas.

With a short time frame, but a large reach into the online work at home community, Misty & Nicole began contacting their online network, friends and family and even held a special
online vendor party to raise donations for the kits. Over $800 was raised in less than one month!

However, when the orders were ready to be placed for the pre-made kits, the product was out of stock! Plan B was formed and different kits were ordered from this company. Then those
kits were on back order, meaning there was no way the foster children would be able to receive the kits in time for Christmas!

Unfortunately, the direct selling scrapbooking company was about to go out of business with no given notice. With over $800 of scrapbooking kits and supplies ordered and only $450
worth of products already delivered -the fear of not receiving the orders placed and a refund on the remaining purchases was almost heartbreaking!

After forceful persuasion with a very kind customer service rep from the scrapbooking company, the remaining almost $360 in orders was refunded.  The first order of kits were also
delivered, however not in time for Christmas.

Leigh Moore & Ashley Smith, fellow wahwomen who were closing a scrapbooking supply store - donated four  boxes full of scrapbooking supplies.  Misty then took the $360 that was
refunded and went to a local discount craft/hobby store and purchased $400 worth of scrapbooking items from paper to stickers to embellishments, tabs and more. The receipt was over 4
feet long!
With the four boxes of scrapbooking supplies sent by Leigh & Ashley and the $400 worth of supplies Misty purchased
with the remaining funds, Misty and her mother, Sandy Kearns, went to work making the remaining 150 kits needed for
the foster children.

From sorting paper by color and style to matching the embellishments, creating girl & boy kits and sliding them into a
12x12 clear tape sealed bag with a letter to each child - it took several nights and Saturday afternoons to put together all
those kits.

Finally in early February 2007, Misty & Sandy were able to deliver all 200 kits in person to the Director and Staff of the
Gaston County Department of Social Services. (due to child protection laws, they could not actually deliver to the
children).

While this fundraiser seemed like a simple project when it was first began and took many twists and turns and a lot of
unexpected work, Misty feels it was worth it all:  "Knowing that 200 children out there received this gift with that special
note just to them to let them know that people all across the country care about them - that is reward enough and makes
all the time and effort quickly fade."

Misty & Nicole would both like to thank all of the people who donated money, scrapbooking supplies and time to helping
with this special fundraiser.  Please

GIVE A KID A KIT Fundraiser & Online Vendor Party- SPONSOR A FOSTER CHILD THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Press Release-

The holidays are all about giving and WAHWomen.com and ItchinToScrap.com are excited to be participating in a special fundraiser that will provide scrapbooking kits as a gift to foster
children in need.

Social Services requires foster children and parents to keep “life books” (scrapbooks) to help deal with the emotional strain often caused by attachment, placement and adoption.

In looking for unique and affordable scrapbooking supplies, Karla Costner, Chairman of the Gaston County Foster Parent Association, came across a scrapbooking kit entitled “177
Things You Should Know About Me” on ItchinToScrap.com. Costner thought this kit would be perfect for the children in her association.

The foster parent association is a non-profit organization and does not have the financial resources to purchase kits for the 200 children currently in their care. Costner contacted the
sales representative, Nicole Pereira, regarding fundraising options.

The manufacturer of the scrapbooking kit currently does not offer a fundraising program. Pereira was very touched by Costner’s request and thought it would be a wonderful idea to
obtain sponsorships for the 200 children for the foster parent association.

“The holidays are about being with family and such a special time for children. This is the perfect opportunity to help children that may not have or can not be with their families” stated
Pereira.

Pereira brought her idea to her team member, Misty Kearns. Kearns, who is the owner of WAHWomen.com- a resource site for women in home businesses, was excited to not only
participate but to include WAHWomen.com as a sponsoring site for this fundraiser.

“I was a little hesitant to take on a fundraiser this Christmas, but when Nicole brought this idea to me and I found out this was for a foster association in NC, (Kearns resides in NC) I
knew I was meant to be part of this and was excited to jump on board!” stated Kearns.

Pereira and Kearns are both sponsoring several foster children this Christmas by purchasing these special scrapbooking kits for them.

They are challenging others to sponsor a child and asking them to challenge someone else as well. In addition- Pereira and Kearns are donating back 15% of each kit sold towards the
purchase of additional kits for the children.

Costner, Chairman of the Gaston County Foster Parent Association states: "Our goal, as foster parents, is to help children. Through these kits, we can work with them to build a sense
of belonging, self-esteem, and self worth. The life books prove to be a valuable tool for the children in young adulthood by helping them connect with their past and set goals for their
future.  We are excited to be working with WAHWomen.com and ItchinToScrap.com to provide these wonderful tools for our children."

Kearns hopes this sponsorship idea will spread and can be continued throughout the year so scrapbooking kits and supplies can be given to foster children all across America.

“Scrapbooking has become a very popular creative outlet for adults and children alike. It is a wonderful way to preserve your memories, share your creativity with others and it is a lot
of fun!”  Added Kearns, “We are so happy to be able spread the joy of Christmas and the gift of scrapbooking to help these children”.

You can purchase one of these kits and sponsor a foster child for Christmas for $12.50 including tax and shipping. You can include a letter for the child along with your kit donation.
Donations for the purchase of additional scrapbooking supplies are also being accepted.

An online vendor party is being held on December 9, 2006 on WAHWomen.com to raise funds and sponsorships for this fundraiser.
